Okay, so, today I decided to do this thing called “magical self-care tarot.” I’ve dabbled in tarot before, but not like this. Basically, it’s using tarot cards to figure out what kind of self-care I need. Sounds a bit woo-woo, I know, but I was feeling kind of stuck, so I thought, why not?
First, I grabbed my Rider-Waite tarot deck. It’s probably the most famous one out there, all those cards with pictures and symbols. I’ve had it for a while, and it feels comfortable in my hands. I shuffled the cards, focusing on the question, “What do I need to do for self-care today?” I cut the deck, and picked up a few cards. The first one I picked up was the Four of Cups. I did not see any other cards, I think this one was all I needed.
Now, I’m no tarot expert, but I remembered from somewhere that the Four of Cups can mean taking time for stillness. Makes sense, right? Sometimes you just need to chill out to recharge. So, that’s what I did. I made myself a cup of tea, put on some comfy clothes, and just sat on my couch. No phone, no TV, just me and my thoughts. I read the cards for a while and found the card the “Fool”. I was reminded that it is one of the most important cards in the deck, pretty cool!
- Shuffled the deck: This was like hitting the reset button in my brain.
- Drew the Four of Cups: A sign to slow down and just be.
- Made tea and relaxed: Seriously, the best part of this whole thing.
After about an hour of just chilling, I felt a lot better. It was like I had cleared out some mental cobwebs. I did another quick reading to see if this no-thoughts strategy worked, and I got a positive card. This “magical self-care tarot” thing might actually have some merit. I mean, it’s not rocket science, but it’s a fun way to remind yourself to take a break and focus on what you need.
I’m going to try doing this again, maybe once a week or when I’m feeling overwhelmed. It’s not about predicting the future or anything, but more about checking in with yourself. And honestly, who couldn’t use a little more of that? Tarot is also cool because you can ask the same question repeatedly. But make sure you do not overdue it, sometimes you might get an answer to another question. Also, there are many decks out there, but I like the Rider Waite and the Osho Zen card decks. The Rider Waite is great for just everyday questions. You can use tarot whether you are new or a pro!
