Okay, so, I recently got into this whole tarot card thing, and I decided to start with the Marseille deck. You know, the one that’s, like, the OG of tarot decks. It’s pretty old-school, all those classic symbols and stuff. I felt like, if I was going to learn tarot, I should probably start at the beginning, right?
Getting My Hands on a Deck
First things first, I had to actually get a deck. I found it at home, to be honest, but I guess you can find one online. I spent some time just looking at the cards, getting a feel for them. The artwork is simple but kinda cool. The Major Arcana, those are the big-name cards like “The Emperor” and “The Star,” they’re pretty similar to what you see in other decks. But the Minor Arcana, those are totally different. No detailed scenes like in the Rider-Waite deck, just simple arrangements of swords, cups, wands, and coins.
Starting Simple
I read somewhere that when you’re new to this, it’s good to just pull one card at a time. So, that’s what I did. Every morning, I shuffled the deck, focused on what I wanted to know, and pulled a card. It was tough at first, to understand what each card meant, since there are no pictures to explain them, I had to study the cards in detail. You know, the arrangement of symbols, the color and numbers. I looked it up online, and some sources were helpful to understand the meanings.
Connecting the Cards to My Life
The real trick was trying to connect the card’s meaning to what was going on in my life. Like, one day I pulled the “Three of Swords,” which is apparently about heartbreak and sadness, and I was going through a rough patch with a friend, so it kinda made sense. But, like, when I pulled the “Ace of Cups,” that was a bit more general. It’s about new beginnings and love, and I guess I just tried to think about where I could find new opportunities in my day. I tried to keep a “beginner’s mind” as they say, not bringing any preconceived notions to the table. Or rather, to the cards.
Keeping a Journal
I started writing down each card I pulled and my thoughts about it. Nothing fancy, just a quick note about the card, what I thought it meant, and how it related to my day. It actually helped a lot. Seeing my notes over time, I could start to see patterns and get a better feel for the cards.
It’s a Journey
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at with the Marseille tarot deck. It’s definitely a learning process, and I’m still a beginner. I’m not going to be reading for other people or anything anytime soon. But it’s been a cool way to reflect on my life and maybe get a little bit of guidance along the way. I’m still figuring it out, but it’s been a fun and interesting experience so far.
