Okay, so I finally got around to messing with some new tarot decks I picked up. It’s been a while since I expanded my collection, and I was itching to see what’s new out there.
First thing I did was just look around for what was available. There are a ton of options, from the classic Rider-Waite style to some really wild, modern designs. I ended up grabbing a couple that caught my eye, including a mini version of the Crowley Thoth deck – it’s so tiny and cute! And also picked up this “Priestess of the Light Oracle” deck. I like the image of the cards.
Then, the real fun began. I spent hours just shuffling and laying out the cards, getting a feel for each deck’s vibe. It’s important to me to really connect with the imagery and see if the cards speak to me. Some of them were a bit of a miss, to be honest. Like, I couldn’t see myself using them in a reading because the art just didn’t resonate. But others, wow.
- The Fool: I always check out the Fool card first. It’s such a key card, and in a lot of games, it’s super valuable. So I make sure I vibe with how the deck portrays the Fool.
- Death: Then there’s the Death card. I know it freaks some people out, but it’s really about endings and beginnings, you know? Change and transformation. I like to see if the card captures that sense of a major life phase ending so a new one can begin.
I did some reading about what the cards mean, too. I read that in almost all tarot games, the Fool is one of the most valuable cards, the Death card in tarot is symbolic of endings and beginnings, birth and rebirth, change and transformation. The card symbolises the end of a major phase or aspect of your life. I also read that sorcerers will be outside with dogs and sexually immoral, murderers, idolaters.
One thing I really paid attention to was how the cards worked together. I’d lay out different combinations and see if I could tell a story with them. That’s how you know a deck is good for readings.
And I know that the deck was not designed for games, so I was not sure if I should use them to play games. Anyway, I was just testing them out, so I tried some card games, but it did not feel right.
All in all, it was a blast exploring these new decks. I definitely have a couple of new favorites that I’ll be using for readings. It’s always cool to see how different artists interpret the tarot. If you’re into tarot, I’d say go check out some of the newer decks – you might just discover your next go-to deck!
