Alright, so, I wanted to get into this whole thing about mixing criminal justice and psychology as a double major. I mean, it sounded cool, right? Two fields that are all about figuring out people and what they do. So, I started digging around.
First, I wanted to see what kinds of jobs you could even get with this combo. I started by looking into what each major was about on its own. Criminal justice, it’s all about the law, law enforcement, and the whole legal system. Then psychology, that’s about understanding why people act the way they do. The information I found made me realize that this was a good decision. So I started to think, how could these two things work together?
I began listing out possible jobs I had heard about, and they all sounded interesting. Like, a trial consultant, that sounded super exciting. You know, using what you know about how people think to help lawyers win cases, help with the strategy and such? That could be pretty awesome. Then, I thought, maybe something in law enforcement? I saw there were many careers where criminal justice and psychology intersect. While criminal justice majors work more in law enforcement and crime prevention. And using psychology in there, figuring out criminal behavior and all that, that could be really important work.
So, I listed some possible career paths. I found that with a BA, BSS, MA, Or MSS in psychology as a dual or double major, you can study the thought process, behavior and so on. I looked at which skills I might gain through this double major.
- Communication: You gotta be able to talk to all kinds of people.
- Critical Thinking: Need to be able to piece things together.
- Empathy: Trying to understand where people are coming from is key.
Then, I thought, I should probably try to get some real-world experience. I went to see if I could get an internship or do some volunteer work. I even shadowed a few people who are already working in fields that combined the two areas. It was a bit of a hassle to set up, but I managed it. After getting some hands-on experience I did a lot of reading, and talking to people who were actually working in these fields.
I learned that there is no one size fits all. It’s all about what grabs your attention and what you’re good at. But hey, at least now I have a better idea of what I’m getting myself into!
