Okay, so today, I was trying to solve this crossword puzzle, right? And one of the clues was “regal figure on a tarot card”. I’m not a big tarot person, but I know a little bit, so I was racking my brain trying to figure it out.
First, I started thinking about all the cards I could remember that had some kind of royalty on them. The Emperor, The Empress, The King, and The Queen – those were the obvious ones. I jotted those down. Then I started counting the letters in each word.
- The Emperor – ten letters.
- The Empress – ten letters.
- The King – seven letters.
- The Queen – eight letters.
I looked at the crossword grid and counted the number of spaces for the answer. Seven spaces! Okay, that immediately ruled out The Emperor and The Empress.
So now I was down to The King and The Queen. I looked at the intersecting clues to see if any letters were already filled in. One of the spaces had an “I” in it, that was a great clue. And It’s the second letter, well, that had to mean the answer was “The King,” right? Because “The Queen” doesn’t have an “I” in the second letter.
I excitedly filled in The King, and it fit perfectly! I checked the other intersecting clues, and they all worked out. It felt so good to solve that clue. I mean, I solved the whole puzzle eventually, but figuring out that “regal figure” clue was definitely a highlight.
It’s funny how these little puzzles can make your day. You feel smart, even if it’s just for a little bit. Anyway, that’s my little story for today. Maybe I should get more into tarot cards, who knows what other crossword puzzles they’ll help me solve?
