So, I got into this whole “Rota Mundi Tarot” thing a while back. It looked super cool, and I figured, why not give it a shot? It’s basically this wheel thing with tarot cards, and you spin it to see what your fortune is or whatever. I don’t really buy into that stuff, but I thought it would be a fun project to try and make one myself.
First, I needed to figure out what this thing actually was. It’s called “Rota Mundi,” which is Latin for “Wheel of the World.” Fancy, right? Anyway, I spent some time poking around online, just looking at pictures and reading about it. Turns out, there are a bunch of different versions, but they all have some things in common: a circle, some tarot cards, and some symbols.
Next, I had to decide what I wanted mine to look like. I’m not really an artist, so I knew I needed to keep it simple. I decided to go with a basic design that just had the Major Arcana cards, the 22 big ones. I also decided I wanted it to be colorful, just to make it more fun.
Gathering Stuff
- I grabbed a big piece of cardboard for the base.
- Then I found some old magazines and cut out pictures to represent each card. It was kind of like making a collage, which was actually pretty fun.
- I also used some markers to draw the symbols and stuff.
Putting it Together
This was the tricky part. I cut the cardboard into a circle, then I glued the pictures onto it in the right order, going around the wheel. I messed up a few times and had to start over, but eventually, I got it right. Then I added the symbols and some extra decorations, just to make it look a little nicer.
Finally, I made a little spinner thing out of cardboard and attached it to the center of the wheel. And that was it! My very own Rota Mundi Tarot wheel.
I’ve spun it a few times, just for kicks. I don’t know if the fortunes it tells are accurate or anything, but it’s definitely a conversation starter. And honestly, the best part was just making it. It was a fun little project, and I learned a bit about tarot along the way. If you’re looking for a crafty way to kill some time, I definitely recommend giving it a try. You might surprise yourself with what you can create!
