Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get into tarot cards for a while, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I’m a sucker for anything Victorian, so naturally, I went straight for a Victorian-style deck. Let me tell you, finding the perfect one was a whole adventure in itself!

The Hunt Begins
First, I hit up some online stores. I scrolled through pages and pages of decks, but nothing really grabbed me. Some were too “new-agey,” others were just plain ugly. I wanted something that felt authentic, you know? Something that looked like it could have been used in a dimly lit parlor a hundred years ago.
Digging Deeper
Then, I decided to check out some smaller, more specialized shops online. That’s where I started to find some real gems. I stumbled upon a few decks that were reproductions of actual Victorian-era cards. Bingo!
- I found one deck that was all black and white, with these super intricate engravings. It was gorgeous, but maybe a little too intense for a beginner.
- Then there was another one with these beautiful, muted colors and romantic imagery. It felt very…Downton Abbey. I was tempted!
- I saw some other decks that are beautiful, I will try them next time.
Making the Choice
After a lot of back-and-forth, I finally settled on a deck that was a reproduction of a deck from the late 1800s. It had that perfect balance of elegance and mystery. The artwork was detailed but not overwhelming, and the colors were rich but not gaudy. Perfect!
Unboxing and First Impressions
When the deck finally arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I carefully opened the package and pulled out the box. It was even more beautiful in person! The cards felt substantial in my hands, and the images were just stunning. I immediately felt a connection to them.

Learning the Ropes
Of course, now comes the hard part – actually learning how to read the cards! I’ve started by reading the little booklet that came with the deck, and I’ve also been watching some videos online. It’s a lot to take in, but I’m excited to learn more. I practiced a few simple spreads, and even though I’m still a total newbie, it was a lot of fun.I can not wait to use them on my friends.
So, that’s where I’m at with my Victorian tarot card adventure. It’s been a blast so far, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. Wish me luck – I have a feeling I’m going to need it!
