Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into Tarot for a while, and I finally took the plunge. I decided to go with the classic Tarot de Marseilles deck, mostly because it just looks so cool, you know? All those old-school illustrations and that vintage vibe. I’m a sucker for anything that feels like it has a history.

First thing I did was, obviously, buy a deck. I found one online that came with a little guidebook, which I figured would be helpful since I’m a total beginner. When it arrived, I was so excited I ripped open the package like a kid on Christmas morning.
Then, I spent some time just looking at the cards. Seriously, just flipping through them, getting a feel for the imagery. The guidebook gave some basic meanings for each card, but I wanted to see what I picked up on my own first, before getting too bogged down in interpretations.
Next, I tried to do a simple three-card spread – you know, past, present, future. I laid them out, took a deep breath, and… honestly, I was a little lost. I consulted the guidebook, tried to connect the meanings to my own life, but it felt kind of clunky.
So, I decided to simplify things even further. I shuffled the deck again, focused on a single question I had, and pulled just one card. This felt much more manageable. I spent some time really looking at the card, thinking about the question, and jotting down some notes in my journal about what came to mind.

I repeated one card for couple days. I mean, that’s pretty much all I’ve done so far. It’s definitely a learning process! I’m not claiming to be an expert by any means, but it’s been fun to just explore the cards and see what resonates. I can see why people get so into this. It’s like a little window into your own subconscious, or something.
My simple process record
- Bought a Tarot de Marseilles deck with a guidebook.
- Examined the cards, focusing on the imagery.
- Attempted a three-card spread (past, present, future).
- Consulted guidebook for learning card meanning.
- Simplified to a one-card draw, focusing on a single question.
- Journaled my thoughts and impressions.
- Repeated one card draw for couple days.
I think the key is to just keep practicing and not get too hung up on being “right.” It’s more about intuition and personal interpretation, at least that’s what I’m telling myself for now! I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress.
