Okay, so the other day I was messing around with this idea for a project, and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have a custom font that looks like tarot cards?” I mean, how awesome would that be? So, I started digging around to see what I could find.

My First Try
At first, I figured I’d just find a font online, right? Easy peasy. But, man, was I wrong. I searched and searched, and most of what I found was either super cheesy or just didn’t quite capture that mystical tarot vibe I was going for. Some were okay, but nothing really screamed “tarot” to me.
Getting My Hands Dirty
So, I thought, “Fine, I’ll just make my own!” I’ve dabbled in design a bit, so I figured, how hard could it be? I opened up my trusty font editor – I won’t bore you with the name, it’s just the one I’m used to – and started from scratch.
- Started with the Basics: I started by sketching out some basic letter shapes. I wanted them to be kind of elegant, but also a little bit rough around the edges, like old, hand-drawn cards.
- Adding the Tarot Flair: Then came the fun part – adding those little details that make it look like tarot. I played around with different symbols, like little stars, moons, and those swirly bits you see on the cards.
- So Many Tweaks: Man, I spent hours just tweaking things. Moving a line here, adjusting a curve there. It’s amazing how much time you can spend just making tiny changes!
The “Aha!” Moment
I think the biggest challenge was getting the balance right. I wanted it to be readable, obviously, but also to have that distinct tarot look. There were a few times I almost scrapped the whole thing, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Finally, after lots of trial and error, I got something I was actually pretty happy with!
It’s Alive!
Seeing it all come together was super satisfying. I typed out a few test words, and it actually looked like it belonged on a tarot card! Of course, it’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what counts, right?

Anyway, that’s my little adventure in making a tarot font. It was way more work than I expected, but totally worth it. It’s a little rough, but it gets to the core of what I wanted to represent. Maybe I’ll use it for some personal projects, or maybe I’ll just keep it as a reminder of that time I decided to make my own font. Who knows!
