Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout them Incas, ya know, the folks way back when. They were real big on the sun, like it was their boss or somethin’. Called their emperor “son of the Sun,” can ya believe it? Sun was a big deal, and the moon too. They looked up at the sky a whole lot, knew all sorts of stars and stuff. That Milky Way, the one that looks all cloudy? They knew it. And them Pleiades, little bunch of stars? Knew them too.
Now, these Incas, they built all sorts of things. Big ol’ roads, like, everywhere. You heard of Cusco? Machu Picchu? That Lost City? Sacred Valley? Yeah, them Incas did that. They were good at buildin’, real good. And they had all sorts of rules and beliefs too, tied to the sky and stuff.
Them Mayans, now, they were somethin’ else too, way up north. They knew even more ’bout the sky than the Incas, I reckon. Watched them planets like a hawk, knew where they’d be and when. That Venus star? They knew it took 584 days to go ’round. And them sun eaters, the eclipses? They knew when them would happen too. For them Mayans, the sky was more than just pretty lights, it was like their bible and their newspaper all rolled into one.
- Incas built roads and bridges, even them swingin’ bridges. Smart folks, I tell ya.
- They built shrines and platforms for their ceremonies. Been doin’ it for thousands of years, even before the Incas were the Incas.
See, it wasn’t just the Incas, it was all them folks up in them Andes mountains. They all looked up at the sky and thought it meant somethin’. Been doin’ it for ages, way back to 3100 BC, if ya can believe that. It was a big part of their lives, ya know, the stars and all that.
Now, somebody wrote a paper, all fancy and smart-like. Talks ’bout the constellations, them star pictures, that the Incas knew. I ain’t read it myself, too many big words, but I heard it’s good. Tells ya all ’bout the different stars they knew and what they meant to ’em.
Them Incas, they had a special way of lookin’ at the sky. Magical, some folks say. Thought it was all connected, the stars and the earth and the people. Not like us today, always lookin’ down at our phones.
So, when ya hear ’bout them Incas, remember they weren’t just buildin’ roads and stuff. They were lookin’ up too, learnin’ from the sky. It was a big part of who they were, just like farmin’ or buildin’ or whatever else they did. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
They was smart them Incas. Knew how to grow food up high in the mountains, even built places way up there, like Machu Pichu. Heard tell it’s real pretty, but I ain’t never seen it myself. Too far for these old bones, ha!
Heard the Incas had gold, lots of it. But them Spaniards came and took it all. That weren’t right, but that’s what happened, sad to say. Them Incas, they was strong people, but even strong folks can get pushed around sometimes.
But even if they lost their gold and their empire, their spirit is still up there, in them stars. That’s what I think, anyway. They looked up at the sky, and now they’re part of it. And that’s somethin’ no Spaniard could ever take away.
So next time you look up at the night sky, think of them Incas. Think of them roads and them buildings, and think of them star gazers, looking up and wonderin’ just like we do. We might be different, but we’re all lookin’ at the same sky, ain’t we?
