Alright, listen up, y’all! Let me tell you ’bout this here… uh… “intrepid astronomy night.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t nothin’ but lookin’ at stars, which we coulda done back home if it weren’t for all them city lights.
So, this “Intrepid Museum” place, sounds like a big ol’ boat or somethin’, they’re havin’ a night where you can look at the stars. Free Fridays, they call it. Means you don’t gotta pay nothin’, which is good, ’cause I ain’t got much money to be throwin’ around.
They got these fellas, “astronomers,” they call ’em. Smarty pants types, I reckon. They got these big ol’ telescopes, way bigger than the spyglass my grandpappy used to have. And they’re gonna point ’em at the sky and show you all the stars and stuff. Said they’ll answer your questions too, but I don’t know what I’d ask. “Why are there so many?” I guess. Or maybe, “Can you see my chickens from up there?” Heh!
- They’re doin’ this on a Friday night.
- It’s free! Can’t beat free, I tell ya.
- Big ol’ telescopes to see the stars.
- Smart fellas to tell you what you’re lookin’ at.
This ain’t the first time they done this, no sirree. They been doin’ it for a while now, seems like. Through November, they say. Even had one last month, April, it was. People seem to like it, though. Goin’ up on that big boat, lookin’ at the sky. I heard tell they do it in Central Park too, but that’s a whole ‘nother story. Too many trees in the way, if you ask me.
This here “Astronomy Night,” they say it’s with some group, the “Amateur Astronomers Association.” Sounds like a bunch of folks who just like lookin’ at stars, same as us, only they got fancier tools. And they’re doin’ it with the Intrepid Museum folks, which makes sense, I guess. Big boat, high up, gotta be a good place to see the sky.
They even got some kinda “Astro Live Series,” whatever that is. Sounds like they talk about stars and stuff while you’re lookin’ at ‘em. Probably tellin’ you all the names of them stars, which I ain’t never gonna remember. But it’s nice, I guess. Learn somethin’ new every day, even if you don’t understand half of it.
September 27th, that’s when they’re doin’ it again. Gonna be a big to-do, I bet. Folks comin’ from all over, lookin’ through them telescopes. Me, I might just sit on my porch and look up. Stars look the same from here, I reckon. But if you’re in the city and wanna see ’em up close, this “Intrepid Astronomy Night” might be just the ticket.
They’re callin’ it the “final Free Friday of the Season.” Guess that means they won’t be doin’ it no more after that, at least not for a while. So, if you wanna see them stars with them fancy telescopes, you better get yourself down there. Don’t cost nothin’ but your time, and who knows, you might just learn somethin’. Or at least see somethin’ pretty.
So that’s the gist of it. Intrepid Museum, Friday night, lookin’ at stars. Free, which is the best part. Go on down there if you want, or just look up at the sky yourself. Stars are stars, no matter where you see ’em from. But them telescopes, well, they might make ’em look a little bit closer.
