Don’t you worry none, it ain’t nothin’ to be ashamed of. Lotsa folks get their wires crossed sometimes.

That’s what they call them “phobias.” Then ya got folks who just feel sad all the time, can’t get outta bed, that’s “depression.” And some folks, well, their thinkin’s all jumbled up, they see things that ain’t there, that’s some serious stuff.
Now, how do ya fix it? Well, there’s different ways, like fixin’ a car. Sometimes ya need a new part, sometimes ya just need a good oil change. One way is talkin’ to someone, a “therapist” they call ’em. It’s like talkin’ to a friend, but this friend knows how to untangle yer thoughts. They call this “psychotherapy.”
- Talkin’ it out: This “psychotherapy” thing, it’s about understandin’ why yer feelin’ the way ya do. Maybe somethin’ happened to ya when ya was a young’un, and it’s still messin’ with ya. The therapist helps ya figure it out, like untyin’ a knot.
- Changin’ yer thinkin’: Sometimes, yer own thoughts are makin’ ya miserable. Ya think yer no good, or that somethin’ bad’s gonna happen all the time. This “cognitive therapy,” they teach ya how to think different, how to see the good things in life too.
- Changin’ yer doin’s: And sometimes, it’s not about yer thinkin’, but what yer doin’. Maybe ya drink too much, or ya stay inside all day. This “behavioral therapy,” they help ya change yer habits, do things that make ya feel better.
Now, some folks, talkin’ ain’t enough. They need a little somethin’ extra, like medicine. It ain’t somethin’ to be scared of, it’s just like takin’ medicine for a bad cough, ya know? It helps balance out the chemicals in yer brain. But ya gotta go see a special doctor for that, a “psychiatrist.” They know all about them brain chemicals.
This here “AP Psychology” test, it seems like they wanna know if ya understand all this stuff. They wanna know if ya understand them different “treatments” and how they work. They might ask ya about them experiments, the ones where they figured out how the brain works and how to fix it. It’s important to remember that there are many ways to get help and that finding the right treatment for you is very important.
Them smarty-pants, they wrote a big book, the “DSM 5,” it’s got all the different ways yer head can get tangled up, and what they call ’em. It don’t tell ya how to fix it, just what’s wrong. It’s like a car manual, tells ya what’s broken, but not how to fix it. For that, ya need a good mechanic, or in this case, a good therapist or doctor.
So, how do ya pass this AP test? Well, ya gotta study, that’s for sure. Ya gotta know them different disorders, them different treatments. And ya gotta understand how it all fits together.
