I reckon they teach all that psychology stuff there too. Heard they got classes on, uh, black psychology and somethin’ about, uh, well, you know, how folks get along, that kinda thing. Don’t ask me, I ain’t no expert. I just try to make sure my chickens ain’t gettin’ into the garden.
Now, there’s a whole mess of these psychology colleges in Texas. Over a hundred, I hear! Can you believe it? They got all kinds. Some you just get a little paper, a certificate they call it. Some you go a little longer and get a bigger paper, associate’s degree, I think. Then you got your regular college, four years, and you get a bachelor’s degree. But some folks, they just keep goin’ and goin’, gettin’ more and more of them papers. Master’s and even a doctor’s degree! Lordy, that’s a lot of schoolin’.
They teach all sorts of things at these places. Clinical psychology, they call one. That’s where you help folks who are havin’ a real hard time, I reckon. Or if you wanna work with people, helpin’ them with their troubles, they got places for that too. Texas has it all, I tell ya. Big state. Lots of choices. Now, they say that University of Texas at Austin is a real good one. Top 10 in the whole country for that psychology stuff, they say. And number one in Texas! That’s sayin’ somethin’. It’s sure about psychology. This psychology degree, it is really popular, they say it is number 4 in the whole nation. A lot of people want to do this psychology thing. And Rice University is number 2, they say. And then Texas A & M, that is number 3. These are all some best psychology colleges in Texas.
It takes a long time to learn all this stuff, though. I heard it can take, like, 10 or even 14 years! That’s a long time. You gotta go to school, then you gotta do trainin’, then you gotta work with someone who already knows what they’re doin’, and then you gotta get some kind of license. Whew! Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it. I don’t know much about license thing, but these are about psychology.
They say the best place in the whole country to learn about this psychology is some place called Stanford. Out in California, I think. Near that San Francisco place. They say it’s real hard to get in there. Only 4 out of every 100 people who try to get in actually get in! That’s tough. You probably need to study very hard to get into a best psychology college.
If you wanna work in a school, helpin’ kids with their learnin’ and such, you gotta go to school for a long time too. They call it a school psychologists. You need at least 60 of them credit hours. That’s what they call ’em, credit hours. Sounds like money to me, but I guess it’s how they measure how much schoolin’ you got. This is for psychology.
