Okay, so today I decided to dive into this whole “feeling misunderstood” thing. It’s something I’ve been grappling with, and I figured, why not try to understand it better, and maybe help some of you guys out too?

First step, admitting it.
I started by just acknowledging that, yeah, I often feel like people don’t “get” me. It’s not like a constant thing, but it pops up, especially when I’m trying to explain something I’m passionate about or when I’m feeling vulnerable. It’s that frustrating feeling like your words are just bouncing off the other person.
Then the action part.
- Journaling, I wrote down my feelings. I grabbed a notebook and just started scribbling. When did I last feel misunderstood? Who was I talking to? What was the situation? What was I actually trying to convey?
- Look for any patterns. Is there a similar situation I always feel misunderstood? Then find it out.
- Trying to see their side. This was tough. I tried to imagine the conversation from the other person’s perspective. Were they distracted? Did I use jargon they wouldn’t understand? Was I maybe not being as clear as I thought I was?
- Practicing clearer communication.I realized I sometimes ramble or assume people know what I’m talking about. So, I’ve been trying to be more concise, use simpler language, and actually ask if people are following along.
- Work in progress and accept it.I have to accept that sometime I won’t be fully understand by anyone, even I tried.
What I’ve noticed so far.
It’s still early days, but I’m already noticing a difference. Just being more aware of why I feel misunderstood is huge. And those small changes in how I communicate? They’re actually helping! I’m feeling a little less frustrated and a little more connected. It’s not a magic fix, but it’s progress, and that’s what matters.
It’s like, I’m learning to build better bridges instead of just yelling across a chasm, you know? It’s a work in progress, for sure, but I’m feeling pretty good about it. If any of you have tips or tricks, share them! We’re all in this together.
