Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these angels coins. I ain’t no scholar or nothin’, but I know a thing or two ’bout things that shine and things that people hold dear.
First off, what in the world are these angel coins anyways? They’re just coins, see? But not the kind you use to buy a loaf of bread down at the store. These here coins got pictures of angels on ’em. You know, them flyin’ fellas with the wings. Some folks say they bring good luck, but I reckon luck is what you make it.
Now, some of these coins, they’re old, real old. Like, older than my grandma’s grandma, if you can believe it. They say some were made way back when kings and queens were still bossin’ folks around. I heard tell of a French Lucky Angel coin. Sound fancy, don’t it? Folks say some fella named Augustin Dupre, he made ’em. Before he went and worked for some big shot like Napoleon or somethin’. Imagine that!
- Some are made of gold, shiny and heavy.
- Some are made of silver, not as flashy but still pretty.
- And some ain’t worth nothin’ but the picture on ’em.
I ain’t too sure ’bout the value of these things. Seems like it changes all the time. One minute they’re worth a handful of chickens, the next they ain’t worth a plugged nickel. I heard tell back in the old days, these coins were worth a good bit of money. Like, enough to buy ya a whole farm, or maybe a couple of cows. They called ’em “angels” and they were worth different amounts dependin’ on who was king at the time. Some fella named Edward, he had ’em worth a certain amount, and then another fella, James, he changed it all up. Then there was that Henry VIII, always causin’ trouble, he made the price go up and up. Can ya believe it? All that fuss over a little piece of metal!
Nowadays, it’s all different. Some folks collect ’em, like they collect stamps or them little porcelain dolls. They put ’em in fancy cases and show ’em off to their friends. They say these coins are special, more than just money. They say they got “metaphorical symbolism” or somethin’ like that. Big words for somethin’ that don’t put food on the table, if you ask me.
I seen some of these coins myself, at the flea market down the road. Some fella was sellin’ ’em, tryin’ to make a quick buck. He had all sorts of ’em, big ones, small ones, shiny ones, dull ones. He was jabberin’ on and on about how rare they were and how much they were worth. But I just shook my head and walked away. I ain’t got no time for that kind of foolishness.
But I’ll tell ya what, some folks really do love these angel coins. They say they bring ’em comfort, like havin’ a little bit of heaven in their pocket. Maybe they’re right, maybe they ain’t. I ain’t one to judge. But I do know this: it’s the things that mean somethin’ to you that really matter, whether it’s an old coin with an angel on it or a picture of your grandbabies. That’s the real treasure, if you ask me.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ yourself one of these angel coins, well, you go right ahead. Just don’t go spendin’ your life savings on ’em. And remember, it ain’t the shiny metal that makes it special, it’s the thought behind it. Just like those commemorative coins with an angel or winged figure. Or maybe that’s just my old-fashioned way of lookin’ at things.
But that’s just my two cents. You take it or leave it. I ain’t no expert, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.
