Oh, you wanna know ’bout that star camp thing, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s for them young’uns what like lookin’ up at the sky and wonderin’ ’bout all them twinkly bits. They call it uh, astro-nomy camp or somethin’ like that.
Now, I ain’t been to no fancy learnin’ place, but they say this camp is where kids get to learn all sorts of things. Like, where them stars come from and how they move around up there. Sounds right confusin’ to me, but them brainy teachers, they know all ’bout it.
Where They Go For This Star Learnin’
- There’s this Space Camp place, down in Huntsville, Alabammy. Folks say that’s a real big deal.
- Then there’s another one out in Tucson, Arizona. That’s called Astronomy Camp, plain and simple.
- And if you’re out in Los Angeles, California way, they got somethin’ called AstroCamp.
- Heard tell there’s a fancy one in Santa Cruz too, for the real smarty pants kids – Kavli somethin’ or other.
They teach ’em all kinds of stuff, you know? Like how them rockets fly up into space and how people go up there to float around. Imagine that! Floaty people! They got fancy tools to look at the stars up close too, not just your naked eye.
It ain’t just star stuff they learn neither. They get to meet real scientists and engineers, folks who build things and know how things work. And artists too! Folks who paint pretty pictures of all them spacey things.
It ain’t cheap though, this star camp business. They gotta charge you for the sleepin’ places and the food and gettin’ around. For the beginner camp, they want somethin’ like seventeen hundred dollars, and for the fancy pants advanced one, it’s nineteen hundred! Land sakes, that’s a lot of money!
But they say it’s worth it, if your kid’s got a hankerin’ for learnin’ ’bout stars and space. They keep ’em busy and teach ’em things they won’t learn just playin’ in the dirt. They got special places, like that Pisgah Forest place, where they do all sorts of activities and learnin’.
It’s for the older kids mostly, you know, the ones in middle school and high school. Them little tykes probably wouldn’t understand half of it.
So, if your young’un is always askin’ questions ’bout the moon and stars, and dreamin’ of flyin’ up there, maybe this star camp is somethin’ to think about. Just gotta save up them pennies!
It’s a good way for ’em to learn somethin’ new and maybe even find out what they wanna do when they grow up. Who knows, maybe they’ll be the next person to walk on the moon!
But like I said, I ain’t never been to one of them fancy camps. Just heard folks talkin’ ’bout it. Sounds like a good time though, for them what’s interested.
