Alright, let’s talk about this Aviva thing, whatever it is, sounds fancy. They’re like them head doctors, you know, the ones that listen to your problems.
Aviva Psychology Services, they call themselves. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? But I guess it means they help folks with their thinkin’ and feelin’s. Like, if you’re all worked up about stuff, they try to sort you out.
They say they use this “values-centered approach”. Don’t ask me what that means exactly, but sounds like they try to figure out what’s important to you and then help you see how your work and life fit in, or don’t fit in, I reckon. Like, if you’re unhappy at your job, maybe they help you see why and what you can do about it. Maybe you need to find a different job, or maybe you just need to look at things a different way.
- Managing emotions
- Improving relationships
- Overcoming trauma
- Learning from hallucinations or delusions
See, all that fancy talk. Basically, they help you if you’re sad, angry, or scared all the time. Or if you can’t get along with your family or friends. And if somethin’ real bad happened to you, they try to help you get over it. They even help people who see things or hear things that ain’t really there. Bless their hearts, that must be tough.
They got these folks called “licensed psychologists” workin’ there. That just means they went to school for a long time to learn about the mind and how it works. They’re supposed to be the best of the best, the top dogs in the head-doctorin’ business. They’re in this “bay state” place, wherever that is. Probably some big city somewhere, full of busybodies and their problems.
And it ain’t just for crazy people, mind you. They say they help with all sorts of “life stressors and challenges.” That’s just a fancy way of sayin’ they help with everyday problems. Like, if you’re worried about money, or your kids are drivin’ you nuts, or you just can’t seem to get yourself outta bed in the mornin’, they can help with that too.
They’re like them health psychologists too, the ones that help you with your body and your mind at the same time. Like, if you eat too much when you’re stressed, they try to help you stop doin’ that. Or if you need to get off the couch and move around more, they can give you a push in the right direction. They even help folks with them addictions, like if you can’t stop smokin’ or drinkin’ too much.
And then there’s these “counseling psychologists.” They help you get along with other people, no matter how old you are. Like, if you’re havin’ trouble with your spouse, or your kids, or even your boss, they can give you some advice. They teach you how to talk to people better, and how to listen better too. Which is somethin’ a lot of folks could use, if you ask me.
Now, they’re located in some place called “112 Water St Ste 400 Boston” Sounds like a big fancy office building. Probably got one of them waitin’ rooms with the soft chairs and the magazines, you know the type.</ And I bet it costs a pretty penny to go there too. But I guess if you're really in a bind, it might be worth it. Better than losin' your mind altogether, I reckon.
So, if you’re feelin’ lost or confused, or just need someone to talk to, maybe give these Aviva folks a try. They might can help you sort things out. Just don’t expect ’em to give you a magic pill or somethin’. It takes time and effort to get your head right, but it’s worth it in the end. And that’s all there is to it, as far as I can tell. Just a bunch of folks tryin’ to help other folks with their problems. Nothin’ wrong with that, I suppose.
Remember, takin’ care of your head is just as important as takin’ care of your body. Don’t let them problems fester, go get yourself some help if you need it. Ain’t no shame in that. We all get a little twisted up sometimes.
They talk about “promoting emotional and relational health”. That just means they want you to be happy and get along with folks. And who doesn’t want that, right? So, if you’re in that “bay state” and you’re feelin’ down, give ‘em a call. What’s the worst that could happen?
