Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another story from my life. So, I’ve always been a bit of a curious cat when it comes to figuring out how people tick, you know? That’s why I decided to dive into this whole psychology thing, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride.
I started off with zero knowledge, like, literally nothing. I picked up a book called “Psychology for Beginners” that some folks online recommended. Sounded simple enough, right? I thought, “I’ll just skim through it, get the gist, and move on.” Oh boy, was I wrong.
Read the Book
This book, it was like opening Pandora’s box but in a good way. It wasn’t just text; it had pictures, examples from real life, the whole shebang. I started reading about how people think, feel, and behave. It got me hooked. I was reading every chance I got – on the bus, during lunch, even stayed up late a few nights. It was a tough read but the pictures in the book made it easier to understand.
Basic Principles
So, this book breaks down psychology into these basic principles. At first, I was like, “What did I get myself into?” But as I kept going, things started to click. Like, I learned about how our brains work, how we react to stuff, and why we do the things we do.
More Books and Stuff
After finishing that first book, I was hungry for more. I went on a bit of a book shopping spree. Got myself some other books that people were raving about. One of them was this hefty thing called “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.” Now, that one was a bit intense, but it gave me a peek into how professionals diagnose and classify mental disorders. It’s not something I’d read for fun, but it was super informative.
Practice Makes Perfect
- Observe: I started paying more attention to people around me. How they reacted to things, their body language, all that jazz.
- Reflect: After observing, I’d think about what I saw. Tried to connect it to what I learned in the books.
- Discuss: I talked about this stuff with my friends. Some were interested, others thought I was overthinking things, but hey, it helped me understand better.
I won’t lie; it was a lot to take in. There were moments I felt like my brain was going to explode. But I kept at it, slowly but surely. It’s not like I became a psychologist overnight, but I definitely started seeing things differently.
Honestly, this whole journey has been eye-opening. It’s like, I was walking around with blinders on, and now I’ve taken them off. I get people a bit better now, and even myself. I never expected that I can understand psychology better with some books.
So yeah, that’s my story about getting into psychology. It’s been a wild, sometimes confusing, but totally worth it adventure. If any of you are thinking about checking out psychology, I’d say go for it. Just be ready to have your mind blown a little.
Alright, that’s it for today’s post. Catch you all in the next one!
