Well, lemme tell you, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout them comets in astrology. Sounds like a whole lotta hocus pocus to me, but they was goin’ on and on ’bout it down at the market. So, I thought I’d try to figure out what the heck they was talkin’ about and write it down for ya.
Them comets, they’re like big balls of somethin’ or other, flyin’ around up there in the sky. Long time ago, people used to get all riled up when they saw one. Thought it meant somethin’ big was gonna happen. Like, you know, some king was gonna kick the bucket or somethin’. Big changes in politics, you see? They thought those comets could tell ya which way the wind was blowin’, like if the crops was gonna be good or bad. And where that comet showed up in the sky, well that was supposed to tell ya who was gonna be affected. Like if it was over the rice paddies it meant that a hard time would happen to the rice farmers.
Now, this astrology stuff, it’s all about lookin’ at them stars and planets and whatnot. They say it can tell ya what’s gonna happen. It’s kinda like readin’ tea leaves, I reckon. These astrology folks, they look at all the numbers, see how many times things match up. They also gotta use their gut, you know, what they feel deep down inside. If they know a thing or two ’bout how people act, then they’re probably pretty good at guessin’ what’s gonna happen next in someone’s life. They call that an astrologer’s intuition.
People used to be scared of them comets. Real scared. Like, somethin’ awful was gonna happen. Like the sky was fallin’ or somethin’. You can bet your bottom dollar they was prayin’ up a storm when they saw one of them things. But now, I don’t think its the same. I guess we are a bit smarter.
They only use them comets in astrology when you can actually see ’em. And they make a special chart, you know, like a map of the sky, when the comet is closest to the sun. That’s called the, uh, perihelion, I think. That’s the most important part, they say. Fancy word, huh? Sounds like a medicine of some kind.

Kinda like if you see dark clouds, you know it’s gonna rain. But there is no scientific reason. All of these are just symbolic meanings.
These astrology folks, they say comets mean change. Big changes. Like a caterpillar turnin’ into a butterfly. They say them comets are like messengers from up above. Divine messengers, they call ’em. Sounds kinda holy, don’t it?
Most folks, when they see a comet, they think somethin’ bad is gonna happen. Real bad. Like the end of the world or somethin’. But some folks, they think different. They think maybe it means somethin’ good. I guess you can see things from both the angles.
These astrology folks, they got all sorts of ways of lookin’ at them comets. They look at where they are, how they’re movin’, all that stuff. There’s other things in the sky too, like them shootin’ stars. They call ’em meteor showers. And they look at them too, try to figure out what they mean. These are the celestial events. All these things up there in the sky, just doin’ their thing. And folks down here, tryin’ to make sense of it all.
I reckon it’s all kinda interestin’, even if it is a bunch of hooey. People always wanna know what’s gonna happen next. It’s just human nature, I guess. And if lookin’ at the stars helps ’em feel better, well, who am I to judge? But I am still not convinced. All these are so far away from our real life.
