Did that Bruce Lee ever believe in that star-gazing stuff, you know, astrology? Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the market the other day. That Bruce Lee, he was somethin’ else, wasn’t he? Born in the Year of the Dragon, some say. Now, I don’t know much about them dragons or horoscopes, but I do know that boy could move like lightnin’!
He was born way over in San Francisco, that fancy city across the water. November 27, 1940, they say. Right early in the mornin’, just after the rooster crowed, 7:12, I hear. Now that’s a specific time, ain’t it? They say that time, that Year of the Dragon, makes a difference. Maybe that’s why he was so special? All that astrology and stars alignment, maybe that makes a difference, who knows? My mama used to read them horoscope things in the paper, but I never paid it no mind. Just seemed like a lot of hocus pocus to me.
But this Bruce Lee, he weren’t just about kickin’ and punchin’. Heard he had some fancy ideas too. Somethin’ about being like water. What is that “be like water”? You see water in the stream, it just flows around anythin’ in its way, don’t it? Maybe that’s what he meant. Just go with the flow, like the river after a good rain. It is like when you pour the water in the cup, it becomes cup. It is like when you pour water in the teapot, it becomes teapot, like Bruce Lee said. That man, he sure was somethin’, even made that “kung fu Jesus” I heard.
They say he was a Sagittarius, whatever that means. And his moon was in somethin’ called Pisces. Now, I ain’t never heard of a moon in a fish before. Sounds kinda fishy to me! But I guess them star-gazers, them astrology folks, they got their ways of figurin’ things out. They probably look at their charts and their stars and all that. I just stick to lookin’ at the sky to see if it’s gonna rain. That is what my Pop taught me.
I did hear some folks sayin’ that Bruce Lee, he didn’t rightly care for politics, and he was raised Catholic and Buddhist both. That’s a whole lot of different things to be, ain’t it? Then they said he was a somethin’ called a “spiritual atheist” when he got older. Now what in tarnation is that? Sounds like a mouthful of marbles to me. Maybe he just liked to keep folks guessin’.
- He was born in the Year of the Dragon, that’s for sure.
- Some folks say that made him special, all that astrology stuff.
- He was a Sagittarius, with his moon in Pisces, whatever that means.
- He had some fancy ideas, like that “be like water” thing.
- He was raised Catholic and Buddhist, but then he was a “spiritual atheist.”
This Bruce Lee, he was a real mystery, wasn’t he? One minute he’s this, the next minute he’s that. Just like that dragon they keep talkin’ about. Always changin’, always movin’. I guess that is what they say about the stars, too. Always moving, always changing. Maybe there is somethin’ to it, but I will not believe that until I see it. I just know he was fast, I saw that in the movie.
I reckon if that astrology stuff made him the way he was, then maybe there’s somethin’ to it. But I still think it’s a bunch of hooey. You can’t tell a person’s life just by lookin’ at the stars. You gotta look at what they do, how they live. And that Bruce Lee, he sure did live! He lived fast, like a shootin’ star across the night sky. Gone too soon, that’s for sure. That is so sad, he was only 32. Died so young. Bruce Lee, what a name.
So, did he believe in that astrology? I don’t rightly know. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. He never told me! But I do know that he was a special fella, that Bruce Lee. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? He made a mark on this world, and that’s more than most folks can say. He was like a dragon, a real, live dragon, breathin’ fire and movin’ like the wind. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. And them stars, they just keep on shinin’, whether you believe in ’em or not. That is all I know. Now I need to go feed my chickens.
They call him “Lee the Little Dragon”. I guess that is because he was born in the Year of the Dragon. And that astrology, that horoscope stuff. Always back to the stars. I guess that is why people ask that question: Did Bruce Lee ever believe in astrology? Maybe he did. Who knows? I surely don’t. But he sure could move like he had stardust in his shoes!
