You ask me ’bout that druidic astrology, huh? That’s what them fancy folks call it. I just know what my mama told me, and what her mama told her. It’s all ’bout trees, and the moon, and when you was born. Like them city folks got their stars, we got our trees. Same difference, I reckon.
See, them old-timey folks, they called ’em Druids, they was real close to nature. They believed everything had a spirit, specially the trees. A forest, now that was a holy place to them. Like our church, but with leaves and birds and such. They spent a lot of time watchin’ the trees, and the moon, and they figured things out. Figured out how it all connects, you know?
They said, dependin’ on when you was born, you’d be like a certain tree. Like, if you was born around Christmas time, you’d be a Birch Tree. Now, I don’t know much ’bout them dates, December 24 to January 20, all that. But I know the birch, she’s a tough one. First one to sprout leaves after a long winter. Stands tall and strong, even when the wind howls. So, if you’re a birch, you’re probably tough like that, too. Able to get through hard times, no problem.
Now, my granny, she was born when the apples was ripe. She always said she was an Apple Tree. Said it meant she was full of love, and charm. And she was, bless her heart. Always had a smile for everyone. Loved her kids, loved her grandkids, loved her chickens, even. They say apple folks are like that. Lots of love to give, loyal as the day is long. If you’re an apple tree, you probably got a big heart, too. Always takin’ care of folks, makin’ sure everyone’s happy. Just like my granny.
That’s different from that Western astrology, they call it. That one’s all ’bout the Earth, ain’t it? This one, this druidic astrology, it’s more ’bout the moon. Them Druids, they watched the moon a lot. Said it affected the trees, and the tides, and just about everything. So, they made their calendar based on the moon cycles. And each cycle, each part of the moon’s journey, that was linked to a different tree.
I member one time, a fella came through here, askin’ all sorts of questions ’bout this stuff. He called it the “Celtic Tree Calendar”. Said it was real old, went way back. He was writin’ a book, I think. Or maybe it was one of them internet things. Don’t rightly recall. But he was mighty interested in what the old folks had to say. Seems like people are startin’ to remember these old ways. Maybe they’re gettin’ tired of all them machines and whatnot.
Here is what I ‘member ’bout some of the trees:
- Birch: Like I said, tough and strong. Gets things done.
- Apple: Full of love, charm, and kindness. Makes people happy.
- Oak: Mighty and sturdy. Always there for you, like an old friend.
- Willow: A little mysterious. Knows things other folks don’t.
- Rowan: Protect from bad things and give you a good luck.
I wish I could tell you more, but that’s all that comes to mind right now. My memory ain’t what it used to be. But I reckon it’s enough to get you started. If you want to learn more, you best go find yourself some books, or maybe ask one of them internet fellas. They seem to know everything these days.
It is all common sense, ain’t it? Just look at nature. She’ll tell you everythin’ you need to know. The trees, the moon, the stars, they all talkin’ if you just listen close enough. Them old Druids, they knew how to listen. Maybe we should all learn to listen a little better, too. Might do us some good. Might help us remember who we are, and where we come from, and what really matters. Might help us find our own little piece of peace in this crazy world, by using this druidic astrology.
I’m gettin’ tired now. Think I’ll go sit on the porch and watch the sun go down. Maybe have a cup of tea. You’re welcome to join me if you like. We can talk more ’bout them trees. Or we can just sit and listen to the crickets. Either way, it’s good to have some company. You take care now, ya hear?
