Well, howdy there! Let’s yak about some stuff, you know, things with names from the sky, like stars and such. I ain’t no fancy scholar, but I know a thing or two, or at least I can tell ya what I heard.
Things you can drive around in:
You got them cars, like that Ford Taurus. Sounds like a bull, don’t it? But it’s also a star thingy, I reckon. Then there’s the Mitsubishi Eclipse, sounds like somethin’ happenin’ up there in the dark. And don’t forget the Mercury Comet, zoomin’ around like a fiery rock. Dodge Aries, Ford Galaxie… sounds like a whole heap of stars and places far, far away. Nissan Pulsar, that’s another one, and the Toyota Corona… sounds a bit like somethin’ you see around the sun, you know, durin’ them special times when the sun gets all shy. Then there’s the Chevy Nova, that’s a star explodin’, or somethin’ like that. And them Subarus, well, them Japanese folks named it after a bunch of stars all bunched together, like grapes, I heard. They even got the stars right there on the front of the car, shiny little things.
Now, let’s talk about sweet treats, the kind that make your teeth hurt:
Everybody knows about the Mars bar, named after that red planet. And the Milky Way, that’s a whole bunch of stars, a river of light in the sky, they say. Then you got your Galaxy chocolate, smooth and dark, just like the night sky. Starburst, all them fruity flavors explodin’ in your mouth, reminds me of fireworks, which kinda look like stars too. And Orbit gum, goes round and round, just like the planets around the sun. Oh, and that Starmix, a whole bag of candies shaped like stars and moons and such. Makes a body wonder how them candy folks come up with all these names.
- Cars: Ford Taurus, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mercury Comet, Dodge Aries, Ford Galaxie, Nissan Pulsar, Toyota Corona, Chevy Nova, Subaru.
- Candy: Mars, Milky Way, Galaxy, Starburst, Orbit, Starmix.
Other stuff named after sky things:
Now, I ain’t just talkin’ ‘bout cars and candy. There’s all sorts of other things named after stuff up yonder. I heard tell there’s atlases and globes, you know, maps of the stars and the world, that got names link to the sky. And them folks at that “Sky Telescope” place, they sell all kinds of things for lookin’ at the stars – binoculars, telescopes, them things you stick your eye into… eyepieces, they call ‘em. They even got books and guides, tellin’ you what’s what up there. And if you’re lookin’ for a gift for someone who likes star stuff, they got guides for that too.
It’s kinda funny, ain’t it? All these things, made right here on Earth, named after things so far away. Makes you think, maybe we ain’t so different from them stars after all. We all just spinnin’ around, doin’ our thing, tryin’ to shine a little light in the dark.
So, next time you’re munchin’ on a Mars bar or drivin’ your Taurus down the road, take a minute to look up at the sky. It’s a big ol’ place, full of wonder and mystery, and it’s given us a whole heap of names for our stuff down here. And that’s somethin’ to think about, ain’t it?
And that’s all I got to say about that. Hope it made some sense to ya. It’s just a bunch of stuff I picked up here and there, you know, from listenin’ to folks and watchin’ a bit of TV. Nothin’ fancy, just plain talk about plain things, even if them things got fancy names from the sky.
