Well now, let me tell ya ’bout this Bryce Canyon thingy, the astronomy festival, yeah, that’s it. They had it in 2024, just this past June, I think. June 5th to 8th, they say. Folks went there, to that Bryce Canyon place, on Highway 63.
Now, I ain’t never been to no Bryce Canyon, but they say it’s real pretty in the daytime. But this festival, it ain’t about the daytime, see? It’s about the night, the dark, and all them stars up yonder.
- They say the skies there are real dark, darker than a cow’s belly on a moonless night.
- And that makes it good for star gazing, or whatever they call it, astronomy. Sounds fancy, but it’s just lookin’ at stars, far as I can tell.
They had all sorts of things goin’ on at this festival. Daytime stuff for the young’uns, so they don’t get bored. And then, when it gets dark, that’s when the real fun starts. They bring out them telescopes, big ones, and you can look at the stars up close. Imagine that!
I heard tell they had some special programs too, at night. Don’t know what kind, but I bet they talked about all them constellations, the Big Dipper and such. My grandpa used to point them out to me when I was a little girl. Said they were pictures in the sky.
This festival, it ain’t just for them science folks, no sir. It’s for families too. They make sure there’s stuff for everyone to do, so the young’uns don’t get restless and start pullin’ on their mama’s skirts. And I reckon that’s a good thing, gettin’ the whole family together under the stars. Makes you feel small, but in a good way, you know?
They had another astronomy festival on July 3rd too. Same kinda deal, I reckon. Daytime fun, nighttime star lookin’. It’s a regular thing, seems like. They do it every year, this Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival. Must be somethin’ special about that place, that Bryce Canyon.
Now, I don’t know much about planets and stars and all that scientific mumbo jumbo. But I do know it’s nice to look up at the sky at night. Out here in the country, where it’s quiet and dark, you can see a whole heap of stars. Makes you wonder what’s out there, you know? Makes you feel like there’s somethin’ bigger than just us little folks down here on earth.
And I reckon that’s what this Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival is all about. Gettin’ folks to look up, to wonder, to appreciate the beauty of the night sky. And maybe, just maybe, to learn a little somethin’ too. Even an old woman like me can appreciate that. It’s a good thing, gettin’ folks together, lookin’ up at the stars. Reminds us we’re all under the same sky, no matter where we come from.
So, if you ever get a chance, go on out to Bryce Canyon. Or just find yourself a dark spot, away from the city lights, and look up. You might be surprised at what you see. And who knows, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about them stars. It ain’t just for them city slickers and scientists, you know. It’s for all of us.
Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival, they call it. Sounds like a mouthful, but it’s just a fancy way of sayin’ ‘look up at the stars, y’all.’ And that’s somethin’ we all can do.
