Well, let me tell ya ’bout these here art nouveau tarot cards. I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I know what I like, and these cards, they’re somethin’ else.
First off, they call ’em “art nouveau.” Sounds all highfalutin, don’t it? But what it really means is they’re real pretty. Lots of swirls and flowers and fancy ladies with long hair. Reminds me of them old calendars my grandma used to have, only way more colorful. Like, real eye-catchin’. You know, the kind of pictures that make you wanna just stare at ’em all day long.
Now, these cards, they ain’t just for lookin’ at, though. They got meanin’, see? They tell ya stuff. ‘Bout your life, ’bout what’s comin’, ’bout what you should do. Some folks swear by ’em, say they can see the future and all that. Me? I just think they’re kinda neat. Like a puzzle you gotta figure out.
There’s a whole bunch of cards in a deck, 78 to be exact. They got these big ones, called the Major Arcana. Them’s the important ones, the ones with the big pictures and the big meanin’s. You got the Fool, the Magician, the Lovers, the Devil… all sorts of characters. Each one’s got its own story to tell. Then you got the smaller ones, the Minor Arcana. Them’s more like everyday stuff, you know? Cups, coins, swords, sticks… They tell ya ’bout your money, your love life, your troubles… all them things.
I heard tell that these cards been around for a long time, way back to somethin’ called the 15th century. Some fancy Italian folks made ’em, just for playin’ games at first. Can you believe it? Games! Then, I reckon, some smart cookie figured out they could use ’em for more than just passin’ the time. And that’s how they got to be used for tellin’ fortunes, I guess.
- The pictures, they’re somethin’ else. Real pretty.
- They tell ya stuff. ‘Bout your life, ’bout what’s comin’.
- Lots of cards, big ones and small ones. Each one got a story.
Now, these art nouveau tarot decks, they’re special. They ain’t just any old cards. They got that fancy look to ’em, like I said before. All them swirls and flowers and purdy ladies. Makes ’em feel kinda magical, you know? Like they got a little extra somethin’ somethin’. I seen some that even got gold on ’em. Shiny gold! Makes ’em look real expensive, like somethin’ a queen would own.
Some folks say these cards can help ya connect to somethin’ bigger than yourself. Somethin’ spiritual, they call it. I ain’t too sure about all that, but I can see why they say it. When you look at them pictures, you can’t help but feel somethin’. Like you’re lookin’ into another world or somethin’. It’s kinda spooky, but in a good way.
Anyways, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ pretty and interestin’, somethin’ that might make you think and feel, then I reckon these art nouveau tarot cards are worth checkin’ out. They ain’t for everyone, I know that. Some folks think they’re just silly, and that’s fine. But for me, they’re a little bit of magic in a world that’s often too plain and ordinary. They make pretty good gifts too. Gave a deck to my niece last birthday and she went on and on about how much she loved them. And I got a chuckle outta seein’ her face light up. Makes an old lady like me feel good, you know?
And the guidebook they come with. Don’t you go forgettin’ that. Now me, I don’t need it much no more. But startin’ out, that little book was a godsend. Told me what each card meant, the stories behind ‘em. Helped me make sense of it all. Still good to have around, though. Even an old dog can learn new tricks, they say. So sometimes I pick it up and give it a once over. You know. Just to make sure I ain’t missin’ nothin’. And let me tell you, there’s always somethin’ new to learn, ain’t there? That’s what keeps things interestin’, I reckon.
So yeah, that’s the long and short of it. Art nouveau tarot cards. Pretty pictures, deep meanin’s, and a whole lotta history. What’s not to like? Go on and get yourself a deck. See what they gotta say. You might just be surprised.
