This here thing, this five of spades tarot, it’s a real head-scratcher, ain’t it? Like them fancy cards folks use, not the ones we use for a good game of rummy down at the community hall. I seen ’em, them tarot cards, all them pictures and such. My granddaughter, she’s got a deck. Says it tells the future. Hmph. Future’s the future, cards or no cards.
But this five of spades, it’s a part of that whole shebang. Heard someone talkin’ ’bout it other day, down at the market. Said it meant somethin’ special. Got me thinkin’, what in tarnation could a playin’ card, even one of them fancy ones, really mean?
They say them tarot cards, there is like 78 of ’em. 78! Can you imagine? More cards than there are days in two months! Each one got its own picture, they say. Some fella told me that it’s like readin’ a story, them pictures. You lay ’em out, and they tell ya somethin’. Sounds like a load of hogwash to me, but who am I to judge?
- First you got these… what are they called… upright cards?
- Then you got them reversed ones.
- Upside down, right side up… sounds like a mess to me!
Now, them upright ones, they say those are about things happenin’ around ya. Like, if your old rooster goes missin’, or if Bessie’s calf comes early. Things you can see and touch. But get this, then there’s them reversed cards. Those, they say, are about what’s goin’ on inside your noggin. Your feelings and such. That is the way they tell it.
This five of spades tarot, when it’s flipped, when it is upside down, that’s when things get interesting. Someone said it means things are gettin’ better. Like when you finally mend that hole in the fence, or when your rheumatism ain’t actin’ up so bad. Peaceful and calm, like a Sunday mornin’ before church. The meanin’ of this card is changin’ when it is upside down.
But, and this is a big but, it can also mean things are gettin’ worse. Like when them Johnson boys get to feudin’ again, or when a storm takes out your whole tomato crop. Nasty stuff. Violence and revenge, that is also what it means.
Some folks, they use these cards, this five of spades tarot and all them others, to figure things out. Like a puzzle, I reckon. They lay ’em out, and they look at the pictures, and they try to make sense of it all. They call it “divination” or some such. The way I see it, life’s a big enough puzzle without addin’ a deck of cards to the mix.
And there are places, I hear, where you can talk to people who are experts at readin’ these cards. It is on the telephone and the computer, and you can ask them anything. They say they will give you answers. They say they know the future. Some of them even say that the first few minutes are free. It is a platform, whatever that is. You can chat anytime, anywhere, and get answers. They will be anonymous and private. They are available 24/7, which I guess means all the time.
Now, my granddaughter, she’s all into this stuff. She says it helps her understand herself. She calls it a “journey of self-discovery.” Sounds mighty fancy for just lookin’ at pictures on cards, if you ask me. But she says it helps her. And if it helps her, then I reckon it ain’t all bad. It is a tool, she said. A tool that helps her navigate life. It is like a compass, she says. It points her in the right direction.
She tried to teach me once, how to read them. Showed me all the pictures, explained what each one meant. It was all a jumble to me. Too many pictures, too many meanings. I’d rather stick to my garden, thank you very much. At least I know what I’m gettin’ with a tomato plant.
But this five of spades tarot, it got me thinkin’. Maybe there’s somethin’ to it. Maybe them pictures do mean somethin’. Or maybe it’s just a bunch of hooey. Either way, it’s somethin’ to ponder on, I suppose. Somethin’ to talk about down at the market. Somethin’ to keep this old mind busy. It is a mystery, ain’t it? Like why old man Johnson’s dog always barks at the mailman. Some things just ain’t meant to be understood, I reckon. Some things just are.
Learn to read Tarot can be overwhelm, I know it. But do not worry, you will learn it. You can do this! One step at a time, and do not give up. It is like anything in life. The more you practice, the better you will get.
They got resources out there, you know. Places that tell ya all about them tarot cards. What each one means, how to lay ’em out, all that stuff. Clear and practical, they say. Might be worth lookin’ into, if you’re really set on learnin’ this stuff. I do not know where these resources are. But I know they are out there. Some folks say that these resources are really helpful.
So, there you have it. My two cents on this whole five of spades tarot business. It’s a strange world, ain’t it? Full of things we don’t understand. But maybe that’s what makes it interestin’. Maybe that’s what keeps us goin’. Or maybe I’m just an old fool ramblin’ on. You decide.
