You know, I seen a lot in my days, but these young folks with their cards, that’s somethin’ else. They call it “friend or foe tarot“. Sounds fancy, huh? It’s like them old fortune tellers, but with cards. They say it helps you figure out who’s your real friend and who’s just pretendin’.
So, this tarot thing, they say you gotta start with a question. Somethin’ you wanna know about someone. Like, “Is that Jenny really my friend, or is she just after my apple pie recipe?” You gotta think real hard about it, like you’re tryin’ to remember where you put your teeth at night. Then, take some big breaths, like you just carried a sack of potatoes up the hill. Clear your head, they say. Focus on that question like a hawk on a mouse.
Then comes the shufflin’. You mix them cards up real good, like you’re churnin’ butter. Some folks, they like to let the other person cut the deck. Split it in three, they say, then put it back together. Then you spread them out like a fan. If you ask me they look like the playing card my old friend used to play. Looks pretty, I guess. They pick the cards, usually three. Each card’s got a picture, and each picture’s supposed to mean somethin’. It’s all a bit much for me, I just stick to my rockin’ chair.
When you start with this friend or foe tarot, they say just use one card. One card at a time, that is the easiest way for a beginner, like learnin’ to walk before you run. You look at the picture, and there’s a book that tells you what it means. I heard them young’uns talkin’, and they said every card got a different meaning. You gotta figure out what that card’s sayin’ about your friend, or not-friend. It’s like readin’ tea leaves, but with pictures. After a while, when you get the hang of it, you can use more cards. More cards, more answers, I suppose. Then you can see the big picture. But, one card at a time is good enough to start, don’t get things complicated.
- Think hard about your question.
- Shuffle them cards good.
- Pick a card, just one to start.
- Figure out what it means.
These young folks, they say the best way to learn this friend or foe tarot is to just do it. Over and over again. Like plantin’ seeds, you gotta keep at it if you want somethin’ to grow. They do readin’s for each other, tryin’ to figure out all their friend problems. Who’s talkin’ behind whose back, who’s borrowin’ things and not givin’ them back. It’s a whole mess of drama, if you ask me. They say the more you practice, the better you get at understandin’ them cards. And I guess that you can know more about your friends, and also your foes. I remember old Mary used to read coffee grounds. Same idea, different tools.
They got this thing online, too. A “Friendship Tarot Spread Widget.” Sounds like somethin’ out of a space movie. But they say it makes it easier. You just type in your question, and it picks the cards for you. Technology these days, I tell ya. Back in my day, we just asked our grandma. She always knew who was a good egg and who was rotten. No need for fancy cards. You focus on your question, then pick the cards. That is how they do it, simple and easy, just like how we do things in our old days.
This friend or foe tarot, it is like a mirror, they say. It shows you what’s really goin’ on in your friendships. Are they strong like an old oak tree, or shaky like a newborn calf? Three cards, that’s all it takes. Three cards to tell you if someone’s your friend, or if they’re just gonna bring you trouble. And this friend or foe tarot can tell you if your friend is true or not. I still think it’s a load of hogwash, but these young folks swear by it.
If you are new to this friend or foe tarot, don’t you worry. Just like plantin’ taters, you will get better with time. Just need to practice. This is for everyone, whoever you are, no matter you are questioning a friendship, or dealing with a difficult colleague. This friend or foe tarot can help you, that is what they say. I do not know if that is true, well, at least I did not try this before. They say it’s like havin’ a secret weapon. You can figure out who’s on your side and who’s just waitin’ to stab you in the back. Useful, I guess, in this day and age. I saw many people come and go, some are good, some are bad, you never know.
So, they are talkin’ about this friend or foe tarot, sayin’ it’s a guide. Helps you figure out the messy world of people. Who’s a friend, who’s a foe. Who to trust, who to avoid. Like knowin’ which berries are safe to eat and which ones will make you sick. These cards can be your guide. That is what these young folks are saying. If you wanna try it, go ahead. Maybe it’ll help you, maybe it won’t. But one thing’s for sure, it’s somethin’ to talk about. Just remember, whether you’re usin’ cards or just your gut feelin’, people are always gonna be a mystery. And that’s just the way it is. Maybe next time, I will give it a try. But, right now I am gonna go to have some rest, my old bones need it.
