This damn thing, what’s it called, horoscope, I heard people talk about it, it’s like that thing, you know, about your birthday and stuff.
What’s This Horoscope Thing?
I heard them young folks talking, saying it’s like, you know, when you’re born, the stars and the moon and what not, they all line up a certain way. And that, that’s supposed to tell you something about your life, about what’s gonna happen and all that. It’s all written in the stars, they say. I don’t know, sounds like a load of hooey to me.
They got these things, planets, they call ’em. And they move around up there, and where they are when you pop out into this world, that’s supposed to mean something. Like if this one’s over here, you’re gonna be rich, or if that one’s over there, you’re gonna have a bunch of kids. It’s all very confusing.
Signs and Stuff
Then there are these signs, like, you know, animals and things. You got your goat, your bull, your fish. And each one, it’s like a different kind of person, I guess. If you’re born when the stars are in the goat sign, you’re supposed to be, I don’t know, stubborn or something. Or if you’re a fish, you’re all watery and emotional. It’s like a big old storybook up there in the sky. And you just happen to be born under one of the pages.
- Goat – stubborn, hard worker
- Bull – strong, likes food
- Fish – dreamy, goes with the flow
And these signs, they got, like, these elements. Fire, water, earth, air. It’s like the four corners of the world, I reckon. And they say these elements, they make you act a certain way, too. Like if you’re a fire sign, you’re all passionate and loud. If you’re an earth sign, you’re solid and dependable, like a good old oak tree. It’s a lot to keep track of, I tell ya.
Houses and Charts and Whatnot
And then, get this, they got houses. Not like real houses, but, like, sections of the sky, I guess. And each house, it’s like a different part of your life. You got your money house, your love house, your work house. It’s like a little town up there, and your life is just going from one house to another. And where the planets are in these houses, that’s supposed to tell you what’s gonna happen in that part of your life. I swear, it’s like they made this whole thing up just to confuse folks. Horoscope orr, it’s all so complicated.
They got these charts, too. Like maps of the sky, with all the planets and signs and houses all drawn out. They look at these charts, and they say they can tell you all about yourself. They’ll say, “Oh, your moon is in this house, so you’re gonna have trouble with your mother-in-law.” Or, “Your Venus is in that sign, so you’re gonna find true love.” It’s like reading tea leaves, if you ask me.
Is This Stuff For Real?
Now, I’ve heard some folks swear by this horoscope stuff. They read it every day, like it’s the gospel truth. They say it helps them make decisions, helps them understand their lives. They won’t do nothing without checking their horoscope first. They won’t even go to the grocery store without checking it. Says which aisle to avoid, I suppose.
But then there are other folks, they say it’s all a bunch of baloney. They say it’s just for fun, like reading a comic strip. They say there’s no way some stars millions of miles away can tell you what’s gonna happen in your life. It is not reliable and you can’t know what happens according to it. They say it’s all just coincidence, and people just see what they want to see.
Me? I don’t know what to think. I reckon there’s some truth to it, maybe. I mean, the moon pulls the tides, right? So maybe the stars do have some kind of pull on us, too. But I ain’t gonna let it run my life. I’ll just keep on living, day by day, and see what happens. Whether it’s written in the stars or not. It’s all a mystery, ain’t it? This life. This horoscope orr thing. This whole darn world.
What’s the Point, Anyway?
I guess some people like having something to believe in, something to guide them. And if this horoscope thing gives them comfort, then who am I to judge? We all need something to hold onto, I suppose. Even if it’s just a bunch of stars and planets and houses and goats. Or fish. Or whatever. It’s something to talk about, at least. Something to wonder about. Something to make you think. And maybe that’s the whole point, right there. Just to make you think. About life, and the universe, and everything.
