Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… this Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Hybrid thingamajig. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like somethin’ them city folks would spend their money on.
First off, I ain’t no expert on watches or nothin’. I tell time by the sun, mostly. But this watch, from what I hear, it’s expensive. Real expensive. They sayin’ it costs a whole lot of money, more money than I ever seen in my life. Heard tell of some other watches by this Jacob fella, costin’ hundreds of thousands of dollars! Can you believe that? Who in their right mind would spend that much on somethin’ that just tells ya what time it is? I got a clock on the wall, works just fine, cost me maybe ten bucks at the flea market.
This watch, though, it ain’t just tellin’ time, I reckon. It’s got all sorts of doodads and thingamabobs on it. They call it “solar hybrid,” which sounds mighty complicated. Makes me think of them new cars that run on electricity and gas, but I don’t see how a watch can do that. Maybe it charges up in the sun? I dunno. It’s got all these little planets spinnin’ around, like a tiny universe on your wrist. Pretty, I guess, but seems awful fussy to me. What if one of them little planets falls off? Then you’re out a whole lotta money, and you still don’t know what time it is!
They got one called the “Astronomia Maestro Worldtime” too, and another one they call “Tourbillon Typhoon.” Typhoon? Sounds dangerous! Like somethin’ that’ll blow your house down, not somethin’ you’d wear on your wrist. And these things cost a fortune! Hundreds of thousands of dollars! That’s more than my house is worth, probably more than this whole darn farm is worth!
Now, some folks, they worry about all sorts of things. They worry about dyin’, about what happens after you die. I heard a preacher once talkin’ about this fella, Pascal I think his name was, said if you believe in God and He’s real, you win big. And if He ain’t real, well, you ain’t lost nothin’. Makes sense, I guess. I ain’t no theologian, but I reckon believin’ in somethin’ bigger than yourself ain’t a bad thing. And talkin’ about dyin’…it’s just the end of the road, ain’t it? Like watchin’ a plant grow, then it withers and goes back to the earth. Natural as breathin’, I reckon.
- Expensive Watches: Makes me scratch my head, all that money for tellin’ time.
- Fancy Names: Astronomia, Maestro, Typhoon… sounds like somethin’ outta a book.
- Life and Death: We all gotta go sometime, like them little planets spinnin’ around, eventually they stop.
Then there’s all this talk about the Bible. Preachers talkin’ about Jesus comin’ back, in two parts, they say. First, He gets the believers, then later on, somethin’ else happens. Lots of folks get all worked up about it, but I just figure, live a good life, be kind to folks, and whatever happens, happens. There’s so much writin’ in that Bible, it’s hard to keep it all straight. Talks about folks bein’ led astray, promises bein’ made. It’s like life, I guess, full of twists and turns.
And then there’s young folks, always gettin’ into trouble. Like that Joseph fella in the Bible, seventeen years old, stirrin’ up trouble with his brothers. Kids these days, they got their own troubles too. Always chasin’ after this and that, gettin’ angry, gettin’ lustful. Heard some folks say it’s just the way they’re made, can’t help it. Maybe so, maybe not. I reckon it’s a choice, how you behave yourself.
So, back to this watch… this Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Hybrid. It’s a fancy thing, for sure, but I don’t need it. I got my sun, my clock on the wall, and my Bible if I need some readin’. That’s enough for me. These rich folks, they can have their fancy watches and their worries. I’ll stick to what I know, what feels real. And if the sun’s shinin’, I know it’s time to get to work.
This here watch, with all its parts spinnin’ and turnin’, it reminds me of life, I guess. Always movin’, always changin’. But at the end of the day, it’s just a watch. And I got better things to do than worry about what time it is on a half a million dollar watch, I got chores to do.
