Alright, folks, let’s talk about my latest project: building my own Justice League tarot card deck. I’ve always been a huge fan of both DC Comics and tarot cards, so I figured, why not combine the two?
First, I started by brainstorming which characters would represent each of the Major Arcana cards. This was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. I mean, The Fool was easy – gotta go with Harley Quinn, right? But then things got tricky. Like, who would be The Emperor? Superman? Batman? Lex Luthor? It’s debatable!
After much deliberation and consulting with some fellow comic book nerds, I finalized my list. The World will be presented by Martian Manhunter, The Lovers will be presented by WonderWoman and Steve, The Devil will be presented by Doomsday, and The High Priestess will be presented by Zatanna. I spent a good chunk of time researching the traditional meanings of each card, both upright and reversed. I wanted to make sure that my interpretations were accurate and meaningful. You know, the Justice card stands for fairness, balance, and truth. That fits right in with the whole spiritual growth thing.
Once I had my list, I started sketching out the designs for each card. I’m not the best artist, but I managed to create some pretty decent drawings. I wanted the art style to be reminiscent of classic comic book art, but with a slightly more modern twist.
- The Fool: Harley Quinn, of course, in a playful, carefree pose.
- The Magician: I went with John Constantine, surrounded by mystical symbols.
- The High Priestess: Zatanna, looking mysterious and powerful.
- The Empress: Wonder Woman, radiating strength and compassion.
And so on. You get the idea. I poured a lot of thought into each card, trying to capture the essence of both the character and the tarot meaning.
After I finished the drawings, I scanned them into my computer and cleaned them up digitally. I added color and some special effects to make them really pop. I also designed a custom card back featuring the Justice League logo.
Finally, I sent the designs off to a printing company that specializes in custom playing cards. A few weeks later, I received my very own Justice League tarot deck in the mail. I was so excited to finally see my creation come to life!
I’ve been using the deck for my personal readings, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s a fun and unique way to combine my love of comics and tarot. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start selling them online someday.
Lessons Learned
This project taught me a lot about patience, creativity, and the importance of doing your research. It was a lot of work, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I’m proud of what I created, and I hope other DC and tarot fans will enjoy it as well. I should have considered the printing costs earlier on and had to find a printer that would work within my budget.
Anyway, that’s my story. Thanks for reading!
