I’ve been obsessed with tarot cards lately, you know? But the usual designs? Kinda boring, gotta be honest. I wanted something more… me. And what’s more me than kawaii? Nothing, that’s what. So, I thought, why not make my own kawaii style tarot cards?
First, I did some digging online. What’s the general vibe of tarot cards? What are the common elements? Then, I dove deep into the world of kawaii. Think cute animals, pastel colors, big eyes, the whole shebang. I started sketching some ideas, mixing tarot symbolism with kawaii aesthetics. It was a blast! My notebook was filled with adorable designs. Chibi-style characters, fluffy clouds, it was a kawaii explosion!
Brainstorming and Sketching
The brainstorming part took some time. I mean, how do you make The Tower look cute? But I figured it out. Instead of a scary falling tower, I drew a stack of pancakes tumbling down. Much more fun, right? And for The Lovers, I went with two cute little lovebirds. Get it? For the suits, I used different themes. Wands became magical girl wands, of course. Cups were little milk cartons. Swords were, well, they were still swords, but with cute hilts! And Pentacles? I made them into yummy-looking onigiri!
Creating the Final Artwork
- Choosing a Style: I played around with different art styles. Did I want a more anime look? Or something softer, more like Sanrio characters? I ended up going for a mix of both, keeping things simple but expressive.
- Coloring: Pastel all the way, baby! Soft pinks, blues, yellows, and purples. I wanted the cards to feel cheerful and uplifting. No dark and gloomy colors here!
- Adding Details: This was the fun part! Little sparkles, hearts, flowers. I went all out to make each card as cute as possible. It was all about those small details that really brought the kawaii vibe to life.
Bringing the Cards to Life
After all the designing, it was time to actually make the cards. I’m not gonna lie, this was the most time-consuming part. I decided to print them at home. I bought some nice, thick cardstock. Testing, testing, one, two, three… So many test prints! I had to make sure the colors looked right, and the cards felt good in my hands. Finally, after what felt like forever, I had my very own deck of kawaii tarot cards! They looked exactly as I had imagined them, maybe even better. Holding them in my hands was such a satisfying feeling.
Honestly, this whole process was so much fun. It was a great way to combine my love for tarot with my passion for all things kawaii. Plus, I learned a ton about design and printing. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Maybe next time I’ll try a different theme. What do you think? Any suggestions?
