Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this thing called “engineering psychology and human performance.” Sounds kinda fancy, but it’s basically about how people and machines work together, or sometimes don’t. I got into this because I’m always trying to make things easier and better, you know?
First, I read up on the basics. It wasn’t too hard to find some initial info. I just skimmed through to get the main idea, like how our brains are wired and how we interact with different kinds of tech.
Then I started playing around with some simple stuff. I took a look at my own workspace, for example. My desk was a mess, and my chair was killing my back. So, I tidied up the desk, got a better chair, and even adjusted the lighting. It felt so much better and I could actually focus on my job.
Next, I moved on to something a bit more interesting – my phone. I realized I was spending way too much time on it. I checked the screen time settings, and it was crazy! So, I started using those app limits. I also rearranged the apps, putting the useful ones front and center and hiding the time-wasters. The changes made a big difference in my daily schedule.
After that, I decided to tackle a bigger project. I’ve always been fascinated by how websites are designed. So, I picked a website I use a lot and started analyzing it. I looked at things like the layout, the colors, the buttons, and how easy it was to find what I needed. Some were pretty good, but others were a nightmare.
- The good ones had clear menus and a simple design.
- The bad ones were cluttered and confusing. I had no idea what to do next.
I even tried redesigning parts of the website myself, just for fun. I sketched out some new layouts on paper and made some mockups on my computer. It was tougher than I thought, but it was also really cool to see my ideas come to life.
Finally, I tried to apply some of these ideas to a small project I was working on. It was nothing fancy, just a simple tool to help me organize my notes. But I paid extra attention to how I designed the interface, making sure it was intuitive and easy to use. It is not perfect, but better than my previous version.
So, that’s basically what I’ve been up to with this “engineering psychology and human performance” thing. It’s been a fun and eye-opening experience. I am not a pro, just try to make things a little bit better. I hope this sharing will give you some inspiration.
