Today I’m gonna talk about something a bit different. It’s about finding help when you’re feeling down, you know, like needing someone to talk to. I recently looked into this place called Carmel Psychological Associates in Yorktown Heights. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.
First off, I tried to find their place. The address is 1940 Commerce St, Ste 300, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. Sounds simple, right? Well, not really. I went there and looked around, but actually finding the right office in that building, that was a bit of a hunt.
Then, I started digging around to see what kind of people work there. I mean, if you’re gonna spill your guts to someone, you wanna know who they are, right? I found out there’s this Jennifer Mott, she’s an LMHC, which I guess means she’s some kind of counselor. Then there’s a Dr. Michael Femenella, a clinical psychologist in Carmel. Sounds fancy, but what does it really mean? And a Ken Berry, another counselor, apparently. Plus, a Dr. Jonah R. Schrag, who does individual and marital therapy. That’s a whole lot of different folks.
I also tried to get a feel for what they’re all about. Their mission, as they say, is to “offer comprehensive behavioral care, with a diversity of specialized therapeutic treatments.” Big words, huh? They’ve got a “multidisciplinary, multispecialty staff,” which I guess means they have a bunch of different types of therapists.
Here’s something I learned – therapists need at least a master’s degree to practice. That’s cool, I guess. But then there are psychologists, they’ve got a doctorate, either a Psy.D. or a Ph.D. They say that gives them “a deeper knowledge of psychology” than counselors or therapists. Made me wonder, is a psychologist better than a therapist? It’s all so confusing!
- Monday to Friday: They’re open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Finding the right office: Took some time, it’s in a big building.
- Different types of therapists: Counselors, psychologists, it’s a bit overwhelming.
Honestly, the whole process got me thinking. It’s not just about finding a therapist with the right letters after their name. There are bigger problems, like, why is it so hard to find a therapist in the first place? It feels like there are so many hoops to jump through. It shouldn’t be this complicated to get help.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with Carmel Psychological Associates. It wasn’t just about finding a place, it made me realize how messy and confusing the whole mental health thing can be. Hope this helps someone out there. Stay strong, folks.
