Okay, so, you guys know I’ve been like, super into tarot for a while now, since like, 1997, right? And I’ve always been drawn to nature, big landscapes, hiking, all that good stuff. So, naturally, when I heard about this deck called the Majestic Earth Tarot, I was like, “Shut up and take my money!” Seriously, I was so excited to get my hands on it.
I did some digging and found out that it was created by this person named J.D. Hildegard Hinkel. Apparently, they made another deck that’s, like, impossible to find now called the Tarot of Delphi, which I really want. Anyway, I finally got the Majestic Earth Tarot, and oh boy, was it worth the wait!
First off, the packaging was great. Sturdy and felt high-quality. When I opened it, I was immediately struck by the artwork. The cards are illustrated with these gorgeous landscape paintings from like, the late 18th to early 20th centuries, some from the Sturm und Drang period, and they’re seriously breathtaking. Like, each card is a tiny masterpiece. I spent a good hour just looking at each one, soaking it all in.
After drooling over the artwork, I decided to actually, you know, use the cards. I shuffled them a few times, got a feel for them in my hands—they felt really good, by the way, nice card stock. Then I did a simple three-card spread, just to get acquainted with the deck. I spent some time with the cards, thinking about what each image meant to me, how it related to the traditional Rider-Waite meanings. I jotted down some initial thoughts in my tarot journal.
I did this for a few days, just pulling cards, reading about the art in the guidebook, and figuring out the deck. Then I decided to do my daily card pull. So, I mixed the deck, and asked for guidance for my day, and pulled a card. I spent some time journaling about the card and seeing how it resonated with me and my current situation.
Now, I’m no tarot expert, but I’ve been playing around with this deck for a few weeks now, and I’m really loving it. It’s based on the Rider-Waite system, so it’s easy enough to use if you’re familiar with that.
