Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of tarot cards, specifically their symbolism and the folklore behind them. I’ve always been curious about tarot, but never really took the time to understand it. So, I started my little project!

Getting Started
First, I grabbed my Rider-Waite tarot deck. It’s the most common one, and I figured it would be the easiest to learn with. I also opened up a bunch of browser tabs – some on tarot symbolism, some on folklore, and some just general tarot websites.
Diving into the Cards
I started with the Major Arcana, the big-name cards like The Fool, The Magician, and The Lovers. I picked a card at random – The Empress – and started reading about it.
- I learned that The Empress is all about fertility, abundance, and nature.
- I saw the imagery of the card – a woman sitting on a throne, surrounded by nature, wearing a crown of stars.
- I read about how the symbols on the card, like the wheat and the water, all have specific meanings.
I spent sometime on this card, really trying to get a feel for the meaning, and I check other cards too.
Exploring the Folklore
Then, I moved on to the folklore part. I found some interesting stories about the origins of tarot, how it was used in different cultures, and some of the myths and legends surrounding it.

- I had read that the tarot cards were just a normal playing game cards!
- I was suprised about the fact that tarot cads were used for fortune telling.
Putting It All Together
After spending a few hours researching and taking notes, I started to feel like I had a better grasp of tarot card symbolism and folklore. It’s still a lot to take in, but I made some good progress!
I realized that there’s a whole universe of meaning hidden within these cards. It’s not just about predicting the future; it’s about understanding archetypes, stories, and the human condition.
It was a pretty productive day! I’m excited to keep learning and practicing. Maybe next time I’ll try doing a simple reading for myself!
