Okay, so I got this idea to make a tarot combo calculator, you know, for figuring out the meanings of card pairings. I’ve been messing around with tarot for a while, and sometimes you pull two cards and you’re like, “Okay, what does this mean?” It’s not always obvious.
So, I started by thinking, what do I actually want this thing to do? I just wanted something simple. Input two cards, get a basic interpretation. No fancy graphics, no AI, just straight-up text.
First, I made a list. a simple list of all the cards in the deck. Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, the whole shebang. I just wrote them all out in a plain text document, you know, “The Fool,” “The Magician,” “Two of Cups,” “Ten of Swords,” and all that.
Then, I started thinking about how to actually combine the cards. I couldn’t just write out every possible combination – that would be insane! There are, like, hundreds. I’m not good at math, so just imagined the number is big enough for me.
So, I decided to go with a super simple approach. I figured I’d just write a few keywords for each card. Like, for “The Fool,” I put “new beginnings,” “innocence,” “taking a risk.” Just basic stuff I that’s been known for a while.
- The Fool: new beginnings, innocence, taking a risk
- The Magician: manifestation, resourcefulness, power
- And made a huge list for all the cards.
The next step was the most boring one. to relate one with another, I mean, card with card, so I started to build a simple structure.
It’s not pretty, But, it’s mine. And all the cards are stored by me, manually.
The basic idea is, I’d enter the two cards, and the calculator would spit out the combined keywords. So, if I got “The Fool” and “The Magician,” it would say something like: “new beginnings, innocence, taking a risk, manifestation, resourcefulness, power.”
I know it’s super basic. It’s not going to give you some deep, insightful reading. But, it’s a starting point! It gives you some basic keywords to jog your memory and get you thinking about the connection between the cards.
It’s not perfect, and it’s definitely a work in progress. I’m still playing around with the keywords, trying to make them a little more descriptive. But hey, it’s something! It’s a tool I made, and it’s actually kind of helpful, at least for me. It is useful for now.
