Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do after high school, and psychology has always been something that’s really grabbed my attention. It’s just so cool to try and understand why people do what they do, you know? So, I started looking into what classes I should be taking now to get a head start.
First off, I signed up for the Psychology 101 class at my school. It seemed like a no-brainer. We went over the basics, like, the history of psychology and the different branches, such as clinical, cognitive, and developmental psychology. It wasn’t super in-depth, but it gave me a good overview. Also, I learned about some basic psychology experiments.
Then, I figured biology would be important, so I made sure to take that. I mean, the brain is a part of the body, right? Understanding how the brain works physically, like neurons and all that stuff, seemed pretty crucial. In this class, I learned a lot about the nervous system and neurotransmitters. I also did some dissections, which was a bit gross but also super interesting.
- I also took statistics.
I know, it sounds boring, but hear me out. Psychology involves a lot of research and data analysis. You have to be able to understand and interpret studies, and stats are key for that. I learned about data collection, probability, and statistical analysis. This was really helpful for understanding research papers later on.
- I even took some social studies classes.
Things like sociology and anthropology. They helped me see how people interact in groups and different cultures, which is a big part of psychology. We explored different cultures and social norms. This helped me understand how environment shapes behavior.
After taking all these classes, I felt like I had a pretty solid foundation. But I wanted to do more, so I joined the Psychology Club at my school. We had discussions, watched documentaries, and even brought in some guest speakers. It was a great way to meet other people who were into the same stuff and learn even more outside of regular classes.
Outside of School
I started reading books and articles about psychology. And honestly, just observing people in everyday life became a lot more interesting. I’d try to analyze behaviors in a friendly, non-judgmental way, of course!
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to. Taking these classes and getting involved in the club really confirmed that I’m on the right track. I’m excited to see where this path takes me, and I feel like I’ve got a good head start thanks to the classes I took in high school. I’m really excited to go to college and learn even more about psychology!
