Okay, so the other day I was staring at the moon, and it got me thinking about all those astrology terms. You know, like “waning moon” – what’s that all about? I decided to do a little digging and actually track it myself.
First, I grabbed my trusty notebook and pen – gotta keep it old school, right? Then, I looked up the current moon phase. Turns out, it was a waxing gibbous, which means it was getting bigger towards a full moon. That’s my starting point!
My Moon Tracking Adventure
I made a point to go outside every night, roughly around the same time, and sketch the moon in my notebook. I’m no artist, so it was basically a circle with some shading, but hey, it worked! I noted the date and time, too.
- Night 1: Waxing Gibbous – Big and bright!
- Night 2: Still Waxing Gibbous… getting fuller.
- Night 3: Full Moon! Wow, so bright, it felt like daytime at midnight.
- Night 4: Okay, now it’s slightly smaller on one side.
- Night 5: Definitely smaller. This is it – Waning Gibbous!
- Night 6: keep Waning.
- Night 7:It’s Waning Crescent!
I kept this up for a couple of weeks, After the full moon, I started seeing the moon get smaller each night. That’s the “waning” part – it means the visible illuminated portion of the moon is decreasing.
I saw that when the moon is getting smaller, it can be called with defferent names according to the differnet peroid.
It was actually pretty cool to watch the moon change like that, bit by bit. I always thought of the moon phases as just pictures in a book, but seeing it happen in real-time made it so much more… real. It’s like, “Oh, that’s what waning means!” Now, I get the idea!
