Okay, so, I got into this whole Neo Tarot thing, and let me tell you, it’s been quite a journey. It all started a few months ago when I was feeling a bit lost and looking for something to, I don’t know, ground me? A friend suggested I try tarot cards, and I was like, “Why not?”
Getting Started
First thing I did was search for what I needed online. Apparently, the first step is choosing a deck. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong! There are so many out there. I finally picked one that just felt right – it had these cool, modern-looking images. It’s called the Rider-Waite deck, which I found out later is, like, the classic one for beginners.
Then I learned about the basics. This deck has 78 cards, split into two groups: the Major Arcana, which are the big-deal cards, like “The Fool” and “The Lovers”, and the Minor Arcana, which are more about everyday stuff.
My First Reading
I found this quiet corner in my apartment, lit a candle (because, ambiance, you know?), and tried my first reading. Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. I shuffled the cards, thinking about a problem I was having at work, and pulled out one card. It was “The Magician.”
The guidebook said it was about using your skills and resources. I kinda thought about it for a while, and it actually made sense in my situation. I had the skills, but I wasn’t really putting them to work. This really made me think and made me do a lot of self-reflection. I realized that I need to forgive myself first, and learn to value myself more. It made me realize that self-worth is very important.
Practice Makes Progress
After that, I started pulling a card every day. Sometimes the meanings were obvious, sometimes not so much. I started watching these YouTube videos – there’s this series called “Tarot by the Tree” that’s super helpful. It’s not about memorizing the cards, but more about understanding the pictures and symbols and how it all fits together, which is important in tarot reading. They always say that it is ok to refer to the guidebook if you get stuck, or when you start with a new deck. It is actually helpful. However, they also say that we should learn to also use our intuition, so you would be able to enjoy your reading more.
- Find a quiet space.
- Light a candle if you’re into that.
- Shuffle the cards while thinking about a question.
- Pull a card (or a few, if you’re feeling brave).
- Look at the pictures, think about what they mean to you.
- Check the guidebook if you want, but don’t rely on it too much.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m starting to get the hang of it. I even did a three-card reading for my sister the other day! It’s not about predicting the future or anything, but it’s a cool way to think about things differently and maybe get some new insights into my life. Plus, it’s just a fun little ritual to add to my day. I’ll keep practicing, and maybe one day I’ll be a tarot pro, but for now, I’m just enjoying the process. It’s like a little daily dose of self-reflection, and I’m really digging it. I think I might even get another deck soon – there’s this one with cats that I’ve got my eye on…
